Setting the record straight, the Director of Tribal Development, BB Sharma today said that a sum of Rs 2.53 crores was sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs in the last week of March this year.
The whole amount is lying in the State Government Account, said the Director and explained that construction of roads and bridges, community halls and other developmental works could not be taken up during 2004-05 as the said fund was not released by the Government.
The Director further said in a statement that there is no question of lapse of fund and added that the amount will be available with the TD Department during the current financial year.
In connection with the 11th Finance Commission award for district councils for construction of school building, the statement said that a sum of Rs 0.86 lakhs has been released by the Centre as Central share and the State share of Rs 1.6 lakhs has not been released till date.
As such the whole work for construction could not be taken up, explained the Director.
On post-matric scholarship for SC and ST, the statement said that the Centre took a long time in sanctioning the amount due to revision of rates for all the States including Manipur.
