Amidst widespread allegation of unfair conduct during the student's union election of Lilong Haoreibi college held today student organizations like the All Kangleipak Students' Union (AKSU), AMSU, MSF and AISF have demanded re-poll.
Following reports of students possessing forged identity cards and exercising franchise a group of news-persons reached Lilong Haoreibi College.
In one particular case a student was found possessing two identity cards - one of Lilong College with the seal and principal's signature and the other embossed with the round seal of Lamka College, Churachandpur.
Besides this another student of the same college was detained by volunteers of AKSU while trying to cast vote producing the identity card of a general secretaryship candidate.
An emergency meeting was convened in the presence of the college Vice Principal and Returning Officer of the College Election Committee along with representatives of AKSU, AISF - Thoubal district council, MSF and AMSU - Thoubal district council wherein the Returning Officer informed that notice for collecting the identity card was fixed for January 6.He pleaded innocence on how some of the students acquired the duplicate identity cards.
Following detection of the use of duplicate identity cards the polling was held up for about 15 minutes and allowed to resume only after cross-checking authenticity of admission form and attendance register, said the Returning Officer.
On the other hand, AKSU publicity secretary Abdul Quayum told reporters that the organization had already intimated to the college authorities to ensure free and fair poll and would resort to stern agitation if the election results were declared without proper probe into the misconduct.
Technical defects also resulted in postponement of election of DM College of Commerce where serial number allotted to candidates did not match with those marked at the ballot papers.
