A group of seven boys and girls of all communities from Ukhrul district of Manipur, who are part of the excursion tour - "Operation Sampark" under the aegis of Headquarters 10 Sector Assam Rifles returned home on January 8 after having visited Meghalaya capital Shillong, Kaziranga National Park in Assam, Makokchung district of Nagaland and the national capital New Delhi.
On the last leg of their tour at New Delhi, they had the privilege of an audience with Pre- sident of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and Chief of Army Staff General NC Vij, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, ADC, said PID Defence wing statement.
President Kalam personally interacted with the children at Rastrapati Bhavan and his simplicity and interest completely won over the hearts of these young students from the remote corner of the country, the statement said.
The group was also taken on a conducted tour of Qutab Minar, Lotus Temple, Red Fort and India Gate during their stay at Delhi, the release informed.
On their return to Ukhrul, the children shared their experiences with Commander of 10 Sector Assam Rifles Brig RN Bhattacherji and apprised him about their wonderful experiences.
The elated children also expressed their sincere gratitude to the Assam Rifles for providing them with this unique and once in a lifetime experience, which they would fondly cherish for rest of their life, the PIB Defence Wing release said.
