Taking into consideration excellent services rendered by Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol (Imphal) in the field of cleft surgeries, the surgical team of Smile Train Shija Cleft Project has been invited by Smile Train International to participate in the 2nd International Workshop on SurgicalOrthodontic Approach to Dentofacial Deformity at the Taoyun Branch of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taipei (Taiwan) from October 29 to 31 .
The entire trip and workshop expense would be sponsored by the Smile Train International Program.
Shija hospital has been acclaimed as one of the largest service providers in the country for patients with cleft lip/palate and other facial anomalies.
According to a statement issued in this connection, managing director of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Dr Kh Palin informed that Chang Gung Memorial Hospital is one of the largest hospital groups in Taiwan with a bed strength of 8800 and serves 27,000 out-patients a day.
The Taiwan Hospital is a world renowned centre of medical excellence and has been on the forefront of medical research in various super specialities, with the use of latest medical technology.
The Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation established by Dr Samuel noordhoff is also taking an important part in the proceedings of the workshop.
In the workshop, the Smile Train Shija Cleft Project would be represented by Dr Elvino Barreto, consultant plastic surgeon in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
It may be recalled here that Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol was partnered by Smile Train Inc, USA on June 11, 2006 to render free surgical treatment to the patients suffering from cleft lip and palate and related deformity.
Till September, 2009, the project has performed 1600 nos.of free surgeries.
Anyone between the age group of 4 months to 40 years from any part of the world can avail of this facility.
