The Infantry' popularly known as the "Queen of Battle" celebrates its 62ndAnniversary on October 27 to commemorate Indian Army's first post independence victory in driving out Pakistani invaders from Kashmir Valley in 1947, a statement issued from the 3 Corps informed.
On this solemn occasion, Lt Gen NK Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC 3 Corps will felicitate all ranks of the infantry and their families and call upon all infantrymen to re-dedicate themselves in the service of the motherland and do the Infantry, Army and the Nation proud.
'Infantry' is the highest decorated arm of the Army but it has also the distinction of having made the maximum supreme sacrifice for the Nation.
It has accomplished all the tasks of guarding our frontiers as well as in counter insurgency operations in J&K and the North East with fervour and �lan in the highest traditions of the Army, in the most challenging environments, according to the statement.
Lt Gen VK Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Headquarters Eastern Command, Fort William, also an infantryman, in his felicitation message to the Infantry fraternity urged all infantrymen to uphold the rich traditions and valour of Infantry.
He also complimented infantrymen deployed in rugged terrain and inclement weather for combating hostile elements with exemplary devotion and personal sacrifice, it conveyed.
In Rangapahar Military Station, Lt Gen NK Singh, as seniormost infantry man, will host to serving and retired army officers and their families in the 'SOI,' it informed.
The highlights of the simple yet sombre function included the customary cutting of the 'cake' with a 'bayonet' and a screening 'Enigma of Courage'- a film showcasing the achievements of the great soldiers over the last 62 years.
For the 'Infantrymen', bravery has always been a way of life and gallantry a tradition.
And for these gallant soldiers 'Victory is still measured on foot,' it added.
