The year 2009 will witness the biggest ever festival of the Liangmai community, the Chaga-Ngee which falls on October 31 .
The Liangmai tribe will showcase cultural extravaganza both in Manipur and Nagaland on October 31 .
Chaga-Ngee is an indigenous festival celebrated by the Liangmai community.
The Liangmai Naga Council (LNC), the apex social organisation of the Liangmai tribe has appealed all the Liangmai people to celebrate this indigenous festival of the tribe in all the Liangmai inhabited areas.
The main programme of Chaga-Ngee will be celebrated both in Tamei and Dimapur.
According to the ancient account, Chaga-Ngee is celebrated after a war where victorious warriors are honoured on the day.
The ocassion also a day to sanctify the menfolks for the next assignments.
However, in the modern context the prime reason of observing this ocassion is keep alive the rich culture and tradition of the tribe.
On the day, colourful cultural programmes are the main features of Chaga-Ngee.
Old and young of the Liangmai community in traditional attire come out in large number to participate the Chaga-Ngee every year.
Besides organising numerous traditional sport items on the ocassion, grand feasting prepared in traditional menu is an important theme of the Liangmai Chaga-Ngee.
In Dimapur, the Chaga-Ngee will be celebrated at Town Hall on October 31.Various leaders from other communities and Nagaland state officials, ministers will be witnessing the rich cultural display.
