Grocery items worth Rs 5.50 lakh transported from Dimapur to Imphal in a hired truck were stolen away allegedly by the driver of the truck, a police source said today.
The stolen goods was purchased by the Parasanath Traders Private Limited, Thangal Bazar, Imphal from R Angami Shop of Dimapur, Nagaland and loaded to a hired truck bearing registration no.MN-01/1634 driven by one Wahengbam Ayon alias Gouro of Dongka Mukam village of Assam's Hojai.
The stealing of grocery items lifted in the truck came to know when the truck without the goods items lifted in it was recovered from Chingmeirong Kabui, Imphal, the report said.
Police has initiated investigation into the missing of the goods items worth Rs 5,50,000 on receive of a compliant lodged by Prakash Jain of Paona Bazar opposite Jain Temple, a partner of the Parasnath Traders Private Limited, Thangal Bazar.
The goods items, 25 bags of dal (mairongbi), 50 bags of marter dal, 100 bags of mushori, 10 bags of green martar, 110 bags of moida, were lifted to the truck from R Angami Shop of Dimapur on April 5 last.
After confirming lifting of the goods from the shop in the truck over phone, the proprietor here had made payment of Rs 5 lakh against the actual cost of Rs 5,50,000 .
Police is looking for the arrest of the driver who is still at large even though the truck was recovered on the night of April 11 last, as learnt from the source.
