Ukhrul, April 15 2010:
The 24-hour bandh called by Manipur Tribal Joint Action Committee (JAC) in all the tribal inhabited areas ended peacefully and successfully in Ukhrul district.
However, quoting the ANSAM as the lone sponsor of the bandh though the bandh was called and supported by various tribal bodies in some local dailies has been described as unfortunate.
Talking to this correspondent, general secretary of ANSAM explained that the bandh had been called collectively to reject the unwanted Autonomous District Council (ADC) 2008 3rd Amendment Act.
Asking the State Government to place the welfare of all its people first before anything else, Shaiza said that hurrying to hold the ADC election without understanding the pulse of the people living in the hill districts or without rectifying or amending the ADC 2008 3rd Amendment Act would be taken as a direct suppression and infringement on the rights of the tribal people which are enshrined in the Constitution of India.
