As a mark of respect and paying homage to Late Major Dr Laishram Jyotin Singh, an information and technology centre (ITC) was inaugurated by mrs L (O) Ibeyaima Devi, mother of the valiant soldier, at Government Higher Secondary School (Nambol) today, said a PIB (DW) release that briefly recounted that Maj (Dr) Jyotin laid down his life while fighting terrorists and saving the lives of many civilians at Kabul (Afghanistan) on February 26, 2010 .
Informing that the ITC has been established by the Loktak Brigade under Red Shield Division as part of Military Civic Action programme, the Defence Wing release detailed that the Centre is equipped with computers, printers, scanners, LCD TV, projection system and peripherals including furniture.

Further conveying that the project aims to develop IT skills of children studying in the School as well as serve as a memorial highlighting the valour of Dr Jyotin, the release also added that the solemn inauguration ceremony was attended by Commander of Loktak Brigade Brig NJ George, CO of 4/8 Gorkha Rifles Col C Kartik Seshadri and Oinam AC MLA Dr Ibohalbi Singh.
The event was also attended by a large number of military and civil dignitaries as well as children from different schools, the release maintained and conveyed of the martyred Major's mother expressing gratitude for the gesture of the Army.
Meanwhile, a team of 32 children and four staff of Children Home, Dewlahland visited Sainik School, imphal today where friendly football and volleyball matches were organised for the visiting inmates, the PIB (DW) said in another release.
A movie (Surya Kiran) was also screened in the Manekshaw Auditorium of Sainik School which was followed by an interaction session presided over by the School Principal.
Informing that aim of the interaction programme was to develop feeling of compassion and brotherhood, the release further added that a grand dinner was hosted in the Sekhon Cadet's mess after which the Home team was escorted back in the School bus, that had also picked up the same batch earlier in the day.
