Out of 25 semi low-floor buses sanctioned to the State by the Union Ministry of Urban Development under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission (JNURM), with the main objective of giving a face-lift to Imphal city and promote 'city sense', around 13 to 14 buses are due to be brought to Imphal within the current month.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, an official source said that other than the buses to be provided by the Ministry for improving public transport system, many developmental works are to be carried out under JNURM.
Hence there would definitely be a marked difference in the look of Imphal city within a short time.
As in other parts of the country, the services of 25 semi-low floor buses to be provided by the Ministry would atleast bring about an improvement in the public transport system of Imphal city, the source said, adding that out of the total sanctioned number of 25 buses around 13 to 14 buses would be brought Imphal within the current month.
It is learnt that the Transport Department would operate all the 25 buses to be provided by the Ministry.
The source further conveyed that in connection with procuring three sweeping machines to keep the Imphal city neat and clean under the Mission, MAHUD Department has issued necessary orders to the company concerned.
Out of the three sweeping machines to be procured, one is very large while the other two are of small size, the source disclosed, adding that requisition order of 30 mobile dumping carriers for proper disposal of the waste materials generated in the city has also been issued by the Government.
Moreover, for regulation of traffic in Imphal city, at the request of MAHUD Department, Works Department has identified 10 places where LED (Light Emitting Diode) traffic signal with solar cell back-up would be installed, the source disclosed.
The proposed sites where the LED traffic signal would be installed include Keishampat Junction, Khoyathong Junction, North AOC Junction, Lamlong Junction, Kwakeithel Junction, Chingamakha Junction, General Post Office Junction, around the traffic island in front of Raj Bhavan and the intersection of MG Avenue, the source added.
