A one day convention on Unemployment Problem of Youths in Manipur and Self-Employment was held at Chanam Sandrok today.
The convention held at Gamma Ray Club ground was organised by the All Manipur Integrated Farmers' Organisation (AMIFO).
Presentation of lectures by experts of Agriculture and Horticulture Departments and inspection of AMIFO's banana farm at Chanam Sandrok were the main highlights of the convention.
Keirao Bitra SDC Takhellambam Phulen Meitei, AMIFO president L Inao, retired Deputy Director (Agriculture) N Dhiren, Horticulture and Soil Conservation officer Sarangthem Prafullo, Programme in-charge of Organic Farming K Devbratta, Fishery Inspector K Jenising and Assistant Agriculture Officer AK Chittaranjan attended the convention as presidium members.
Giving key-note address of the convention, AMIFO assistant general secretary Toijam Nolendro said that AMIFO was established with a conviction to make the people self-reliant through their own hard labour.
Instilling sense of dignity of labour among the unemployed youth and leading them on the right path in addition to augmenting the economy of the land are the objectives of AMIFO, he said.
AMIFO aims at establishment of agricultural farms and joint farming.
Shortage of food grains, spending huge amounts of money on procuring food grains, absence or lack of irrigation facilities and the resultant inability to practice agriculture round the year are some of the principal problems being encountered by the people of Manipur, Nolendro said.
Saying that AMIFO would also pay due attention to conservation of biodiversity and ecology of the land, Nolendro said they would also take up dairy farming and fishery.
He also appealed to the people to support AMIFO in its activities aimed at nurturing work culture, sustainable development, social awareness, ecological imbalance and emotional integration.
Agriculture and Horticulture experts also delivered lectures on related topics.
