Cataract SURGERY to 551 persons has been per formed in three month time under the "Mission for Vi sion" in Thoubal district organized by the Shija Eye Care Foundation in association with Thoubal District Blindness Control Society.
The three month long programme was conducted under the sponsorship of the National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) said secretary of the Shija Health Care and Research Institute, Kh Pallin whiles-briefing media per sons.

Dr Renu also attended the briefing.
DrRenu said such cataract surgery was held at several occasions in the state but performing so much number of surgeries (551 persons) is first time in Manipur.
People keeping faith to the authority of the Shija hospital and efforts of the doctors behind the achievement, she said.
Earlier, people avoid cataract surgery owing to fear of becoming total loss of sight if surgery happened to fail.
Apart from this, there was shortage of sophisticated equipments for the operation and lesser number of people turned up for the surgery.
But with the supply of needed equipments by the Shija Eye Care Foundation, the cataract surgeries have been performed successfully, she said.
Dr Lala, head of Shija Eye Care Foundation said there are many people who can save from blindness if cataract surgery is performed on time.
In the state too there are plenty of sophisticated equipments for performing the operation.
No need for going outside the state for the purpose.
In Manipur, even though authorities targeted to perform cataract surgery to 2000 persons, the same could not achieve.
But with large number of people coming for the surgery, the same may be achieved this year.
Dr Pallin said cataract is one of the results behind losing eye sight.
Compared to all India level, the state has 1 percent (25,000 of the population) cataract patients.
