Imphal, May 11:
Claiming responsibility for the abduction of the Asst professor of Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (RIMS) Dr Nandabir, the Manipur Human Rights protection Guild warned that the agitation and the tightened security deployment will only endanger the life of the doctor.
Contending that the abduction of Dr Nandabir should not be misconstrued as connected to ransom the outfits publicity and information secretary Michael Jayagam said the Asst Professor was taken into custody on ground of being a RIMS worker.
Justifying its conduct the secretary charged RIMS otf adopting a callous attitude when approached to reciprocate positively on the Rs 1 lakh donation demanded by the outfit.
Claiming of repeated appraisals to the RIMS Director Dr L Fimate, Deputy Director N Juge and Koijam apabi to act in consonance with the Guilds demand served a year back Michael expressed resentment at the callous respond of RIMS authorities even though similar demands from other insurgent outfits were entertained without hesitation.
If such indifferent attitude persists other RIMS employees having to face the same fate as Dr Nandabir could not be ruled out, warned the outfits secretary in a telephonic conversation.
Stating that the stand-off between the RIMS and the Guild would not bring any positive development, the secretary further warned that ceasework strike, closure of the hospital and additional deployment of security forces at RIMS is akin to undermining risk factor with regard to Dr Nandabir.
On the Guilds donation to RIMS, it observed that neither could insurgent organisations survive without physical, moral and financial support of the public nor pursue agenda of cleansing the society from the ills of corruption.
In the four years since inception of the Guild, its members have been conducting anti-corruption drive and will continue to pursue such activity in the future, said the secretary while alleging that no Government employee is free from corruption when their assets/properties are compared to the salary they are liable to enjoy.
Under no circumstances could the wealth of the Govt employees, especially the officials be described as fruit of hard work or expertise of the salaried class but is a consequence of fleecing the gullible public, said the Guild.
