Imphal, May 11:
Following the indefinite closure of RIMS' Casualty Ward since yesterday morning to protest the abduction of Dr Yumnam Nandabir, JN Hospital with its poor infrastructure, is being hard pressed to meet the demands of the growing number of patients.
Talking to The Sangai Express, JN Hospital Superintendent Dr Motilal informed that patients have been pouring in continuously since yesterday afternoon over crowding the Casualty Ward of the hospital.
With the Casualty Ward equipped with only eight beds, most of the patients are forced to sleep on the corridors making the movements of the Doctors and staff almost impossible during emergency situations, he said adding that there are presently over 50 patients admitted at the JN Casualty Ward.
Dr Motilal also informed that the present bed strength of JN Hospital is 220 which includes 27 in the security Ward and 20 in the Western block.
Another 20 beds in the Special ward have also been rendered useless due to its dilapidated conditions, he added.
Stating that the ongoing strike will give serious headaches to the JN authorities if an amicable solution is not worked out within the next two/three days, he urged the Govt to look into the matter and help end the ongoing stir within the shortest possible time.
Besides shortage of manpower and beds, the problems of the JN hospital been further compounded by the erratic power supply, informed Dr Motilal.
Meanwhile, RIMS staff along with Director Prof L Fimate staged a sit in protest in front of the OPD from 10 am to 1 pm today to protest the abduction of Dr Y Nandabir.
