Social Welfare and Co-operation Minister W Leima Devi has announced that the State Government would soon launch a new programme called State Integrated Women Empowerment Scheme for the welfare of women in the State.
Addressing at the occasion of inauguration of a new pond and a building of the Anganwadi Centre at Malom Tuliyaima as chief guest today, Leima informed that the first phase of the programme would be taken up in Imphal West-II Wangoi Block.
Under this programme around 100 women would be given training for a period of one month, she added.
The Minister further said that besides providing supplementary nutrition to children within the age group of 0-5 in Anganwadi centres under the ICDS project being taken up by the Government, special attention are also being given to the mothers and pregnant women to keep them selves healthy.
Referring to the inauguration of the Koirou Pond, the Minister hoped that it would be able to solve the problem of lack of adequate water being faced by the people to a certain level.
She also appealed to the people to keep pond clean while assuring all possible help from her Department side in proper maintenance of the pond.
Commanding Officer of 22 Maratha Light Infantry stationed in Imphal Airport Complex Col Gurmeet Singh presided over the function which was also the presence of Kodompokpi Zilla Parishad Sh Chaoba Singh, Joint Director of Social Welfare S Saratchandra Sharma, CDPO Wangoi Mangijaobi Devi and Adjutant of 22 Maratha Light Infantry Major Th Luwangcha as guests of honour.
Col Gurmeet Singh, who inaugurated the building of the Anganwadi centre, while addressing to the people promised that his battalion would extend all possible help for the development of the State.
He announced that a vocational centre would be set up very soon for the benefit of the people besides construction of a community hall.
Col Gurmeet also lauded the efforts being made by Meira Paibis as well as the media for maintaining peace and normalcy in the State .
