Imphal, August 31:
In connection with the alleged extra-judicial killing of two students by CRPF personnel in 2002, two separate writ petitions have been filed by mothers of the deceased before the Gauhati High Court today.
The writ petitioners are Yumnam Radhamani, mother of deceased Y Robita of Waiton Makha Leikai and Asem Damayanti, mother of deceased A Romajit of Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai.
At about 2.30 pm of April 9, 2002, personnel of 121 Bn and 134 Bn CRPF were moving along Pangei road in four vehicles when suspected UG cadres attacked the convoy killing four jawans and injuring two others, the petitioners said.
In the retaliatory action, the CRPF personnel went on a rampage and fired indiscriminately in and around Pangei bazar.
They also thrashed all the innocent people they spotted.
While Robita was gunned down in the violent reaction, Romajit was shot dead by a reinforcement team of CRPF.
Though a Magisterial enquiry was conducted on the matter, its report is yet to be placed before the State Cabinet, the petitioners noted.
The bereaved mothers prayed before the Court to issue a direction to punish the personnel involved in killing the two students and for payment of adequate compensation to them (petitioners).
