The Federation of Regional Indigenous Peoples Society (FREINDS) has demanded unconditional release of three activists pulled up by troops of 22 Maratha LI from its Nambol Council office on August 29 with the alleged false allegation that they were KYKL cadres.
Speaking to reporters today, FREINDS general secretary Joy Chingakham maintained that following incidents of robbery and theft in Nambol area since last few days, FRIENDS volunteers together with local Meira Paibis and club volunteers were on the look out for the anti-social elements.
In the night of August 29, Thoi Sharma of Thangmeiband, Debabrata and Gunachandra of Khoyathong were pulled up on suspicion and were being questioned when 22 MLI troops came and arrested FREINDS activists��Yumkhaibam Joykumar, Oinam Prakash and Yumnam Ronel on the false allegation of being KYKL cadres.
While condemning the alleged high-handedness of the 22 MLI troops, Joy Chingakham clarified that FREINDS is not related with any underground organisation.
He also appealed to all concerned to clarify the allegation.
Asserting that FREINDS could not confirm the identities of the allegedly rescued individuals in their localities, Joy cast aspersion that they might be collaborators of security forces.
