Under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme 2,99,859 students in Manipur were benefited during the year 2006-07, Central assistance released to Manipur amounted to Rs.974.34 lakhs in the year 2004-05, Rs 915.09 lakhs in 2005-06 and Rs.1414.75 lakhs in 2006-07.In a written reply to a question raised by M.V.Mysura Reddy in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development MAAA Fatmi produced State-wise details of children benefited under the Mid-Day Meal Programme in the year 2006-07, and also details of Central Assistance released under the Scheme in the last three years.
In Assam 47,00,623 students benefited under the programme in 2006-07 and a sum of Rs 8105.15 lakhs was released in 2004-05, Rs.10885.25 lakhs in 2005-06 and Rs.29728.85 lakhs in 2006-07.The Mid-Day Meal Scheme is implemented to cover children studying in classes I-V of Government, local body and Government aided schools, and centres run under the Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) and Alternative & Innovative Education (AIE) Centres across the country.
Under the Scheme, children are served hot cooked meal of 450 calories and 12 grams of protein per school day.
Central assistance to States/UTs is released only after adjusting unspent balance out of previous releases.
