School eye screening camp would be launched very soon in the schools of Manipur with the main objective of controlling blindness among the school children, programme secretary of Imphal West District Blindness Control Society Dr RK Lakhsana has stated.
The camp is to be conducted under the State Blindness Control Society as part of the National Blindness Control Programme.
In Imphal West, the camp would be conducted by Imphal West District Blindness Control Society in association with Opthalmic divisions of RIMS and JN Hospital.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection at the public health centre of Mekola, Dr Lakhsana said Nation-wide campaign on free eye treatment is being launched under the National Blindness Control Programme with the main objective of controlling blindness among the people.
As part of this programme, school eye screening camp, which is special programme targeting young children would also be conducted in Manipur.
Necessary preparation for conducting the camp have already been made, Dr Lakhsana informed, adding that apart from free treatment, spectacles would also be provided to the patients who need vision correction free of cost.
He also appealed to the students, their parents and the school authorities for extending their full co-operation towards ensuring success of the camp.
Meanwhile, Imphal West District Blindness Control Society and Opthalmic division of RIMS jointly conducted a free eye treatment camp at Mekola PHC today.
During the camp, a team of five doctors led by Eye Specialist of RIMS Dr Ibohal Salam treated around 244 patients including 164 women patients.
Medicines were also distributed among the patients free of cost.
From among the patients, the doctors have also identified 20 patients who would be required further operation.
