MLA, Bijoy Koijam today expressed the need replacing chemical fertilizers by organic manure as everybody know the effect of consuming food produced using chemical fertilizers.
The MLA was speaking at the one day training programme on soil health management held at Kongba Uchekon in Imphal east organised by the Farmers� Development Society under the sponsorship of the state agriculture department and Union ministry of agriculture.
MLA Bijoy Koijam was the chief guest of the opening function of the training programme attended by deputy director of agriculture (planning), G Shamu Kabui, deputy director (Soil Chemist), Ph Rajendra as guests of honour.
Further speaking on the occasion, Bijoy Koijam said that now everybody knows the side effect of consuming food produced by applying chemical fertilizers.
So, now time has come to use organic manure by the farmers in their fields.
It will not only help in enhancing the production but also reduce impact to the environment.
Enhancing food productivity is also a must and now agricultural scientists have revealed that using organic manure not only enhance the production but also help in retaining soil fertility for a long time.
Speaking on the occasion, deputy director (soil chemist), Ph Rajendra said for healthy living consumption of good food is a must.
Keeping this in mind, agriculture department is taking up various campaign programmes to aware farmers on various method of cultivation for quality food production.

The department is efforting to aware each and every farmers of the state on the management of soil health in their fields and also trying to avail the facilities of soil testing to the farmers across the state.
He also appealed the farmers not to keep empty their fields all the year round but to choose certified seeds only at the time of growing crops in their fields.
The department is also trying for introducing double cropping to the farmers during the current year.
Associate professor of department of entomology, Central Agricultural University, Dr Ksh Ibohal who talked as resource person at the training programme said that due to excessive use of chemical pesticides and chemical fertilizers, the taste of foods have been sharply reduced.
Not only reduction in taste, consumption of food produced with the application of chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides and insecticides is hazardous to health, Dr Ibohal said adding that farmers need to reduce application of chemical fertilizers in their fields and replace by organic manures.
On the occasion, MLA Bijoy Koijam also launched a campaign for treatment of soil using micro nutrient and green manures.
