Imphal, Jun 11:
Taking the advantages offered by Information Technology, the DC of Tamenglong district, has adopted certain strategies to better the communication between the district headquarters and sub-divisional headquarters such as Nungba, Tamei and Tousem.
The strategy sounds simple enough but it has done wonders to better communication between the DC and his subordinate staff working in the sub-divisions.
A certain amount of money is deducted from the Contingency fund of the DRDA and the deducted amount is used to procure Laptop, colour printers, portable genset, lamination machine, digital camera and the same are given to the SDOs/SDMs of Nungba, Tousem and Tamei.
The SDOs of Tamei block and Tousem have been able to effectively use the IT tools in the discharge of their official works.
They have been using the tools since December last year.
SDO of Nungba, Praveen Singh has also been using the new arrangements since May 5 this year.
With the help of these tools, officers from Nungba sub-division are able to go to the remote areas such as Tamlok, Nungnang and Tousang and immediately release benefit schemes such as Family Benefit Scheme, Old Age Pension to the right persons.
With the help of the digital camera, the officer concerned is able to immediately take the photographs of the persons entitled to pension benefits.
The card is then processed through the laptop and the ID card of the beneficiary can be prepared at the spot, saving the villagers from the trouble of going to the district headquarters or Imphal.
The computers (Laptop) and other peripherals have greatly helped the district administration in preparing the job card for the workers to be engaged under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
Photographs of the surrounding areas can be taken and stored in the Laptop and this may help the officers concerned when work programmes like terracing have to be taken up.
The initial reports can be prepared by just looking at the photographs without actually going to the spot, saving a lot of time and resources.
Speaking to this reporter, DC of Tamenglong T Pamei said that the IT tools are bought from the Contingency Fund under the DRDA.
The new arrangements have gone a long way in bridging the communication gap between the offices of the SDOs and the district headquarters, he added.
Pamei added that the procurement of the new items have helped in organising field work and data filing and collection.
Online connectivity for the works taken up under the NREGs will also become possible, said the IAS officer.
Tamenglong is the first hill district to employ the benefits of IT in such a manner.
If other districts, such as Ukhrul, Senapati, Chandel and Churachandpur follow suit, it will give concrete meaning to the goal of E-Governance.
