Imphal, Jun 11:
A month long theatre training course at Leimayol Arts Centre, Chingamakha was concluded today.
Speaking as chief guest in the closing function, MLA I Hemochandra noted that the art form of theatre is dying day by day in the State.
He asserted that the State Government need to revive the art form of theatre by one means or another.
Hemochandra recalled that once theatre plays were very popular in Manipur but today it seems that its place has been taken over Shumang Leela.
He remarked that the development of Shumang Leela is a good fortune of the State just as it is a great loss for the Manipuris when theatre makes its exit from the scene.
The MLA alleged that dying of theatre is a direct consequence of the State's failure to initiate measures to promote the art form.
Asserting that the art form is in its critical stages of extinction from Manipur, he reiterated that the Government must find out a means to save the art form from imminent extinction.
Today's function was also graced by theatre director and State Kala Akademi awardee L Shyamdev as president while programme officer of Manipur State Kala Akademi S Bideshwar and general secretary of Theatre Centre Manipur Kh Ranbir as guests of honour.
