Four persons were killed in yet another tragic road accident along the notorious Guite Road on January 20 while leaving as many as 16 others injured.
The truck (MN 05/ 2268) which was returning from Songtal village where it had delivered materials for bio-mass power project was loaded with logs and grain apart from about 20 people when the accident occurred.
The four persons who were killed in the accident are Zamzakam (30) s/o Zamgin of Mualnuam village; Pauthianmuan (18) s/o Thanglianmang and Vanlalrem (26) s/o Vungzangai, both from Bungmual village, Churachandpur and Vumzachin alias Chinpu (34) s/o Kampu of Central Lamka here, who is the driver.
Local volunteers and other vehicles plying along the road brought the dead and the injured to Churachandpur at around 10.30 am yesterday.
Out of the sixteen injured, two were admitted to the District Hospital and the rest discharged after first aid.
The accident site is located about 75 kilometres from the district headquarters along Guite Road near a camp previously used by 42 BRTF.
Sources said that the truck came to the edge of the road and the loose earth gave way, sending the vehicle down a steep hillside for about 200 feet.
According to plea of parties concerned, no post mortem was conducted on the bodies and were handed over to the families for burial.
The case will be settled between the truck owner Vungkhum of Central Lamka and the victim parties according to customary practices, sources added.
This is the second fatal truck accident in the district this month.
