Imphal, January 22:
Lashing out against the State Cabinet's decision to downgrade 15 Hr Sec schools to the status of high schools with the stated objective of rationalizing the teachers-students ratio, Manipur Students' Federation has said that the Govt's decision was nothing but an attempt to privatize the Higher education system in the State.
In a statement today, MSF Secy Coordinator Oinam Ashinikumar Singh lamented that the Govt's view was completely one sided and would definitely harm the interest of the poor students as they would not be able to afford the high fees in the Higher Secondary schools run by private individuals.
He further said that the Govt should have found out the factors responsible for the dismal conditions in the Govt Hr Sec Schools and take necessary measures to improve the conditions instead of hastily deciding for degrading 15 higher secondary schools.
Asking whether the Govt would reverse its decision if the remaining Hr Sec schools were unable to admit all the class eleven students in the coming academic session, Ashnikumar said that the Govt should take up positive actions by working out steps to remove the ills afflicting the education system, instead of amalgamating and degrading Govt schools.
