An indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh road has been imposed in connection with the arrest of a person by suspected Army personnel from Moreh Police complex where a programme was being organised to celebrate the New Year yesterday.
The person who has been allegedly picked up by the suspected Army personnel is identified as Sarangthem Jayanta alias Arun (36) of Hiyanglam Maning Leikai.
One Sanasam Manglem has lodged a complaint with the Moreh Police Station in connection with the arrest.
According to reports, Jayanta was picked up by the suspected Army personnel at around 8.30 pm yesterday while the programme entitled �Anouba Chahina Lakpada, Manipur Imagee Yaipha Paojel� organised by Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup at Moreh Police Compound was underway.
In connection with the incident, Kha-Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Moreh and Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Moreh have jointly imposed the bandh which is also being supported by Minority Women Development Society, Women Development Association, Muslim Nagar and women of the Nepali community at Moreh.
Owing to the bandh, all the shops and market places in the border town remain closed from this afternoon and vehicles stayed off the road.
Apart from bandh supporters coming out and blocking the roads with burning tyres and timber, there is no report of any untoward incidents.
CO of 24 Assam Rifles has denied arresting any person on New Year day.
However, agitating womenfolk rejected the denial of the AR asserting that the person was arrested in full view of the people who were watching the programme.
The bandh would remain in force until and unless the said person is released whether he is guilty or not, they said.
One hurt in IED blast: A 19-year youth was injured in an IED blast at Thenjol in Churachadpur district yesterday at 11 am.
The injured youth has been identified as Satzhou of Maumol.
He had gone to Thenjol to celebrate new year with his relatives.
The youth was given first aid by the Army and evacuated to Churachandpur, said a PIB (DW) press release.
