Imphal, January 02:
A seminar on Ima Imoinu in relation to Kanglei society and households was organised today by Momnu Irikhombi Lup (Mikhol) at Kangla auditorium.
The seminar was participated by various women leaders of different bodies.
Retired lecturer of DM College of Arts, Ch Bilashini observed that it has become imperative to study the ideal examples set by the mythological goddess in view of the ever degrading moral character of our youths.
She recalled the perfect ideals and deeds shown by Goddess Imoinu in her several incarnations.
However, our society being patriarchal, Manipuri women are not being given equal treatment at par with their male counterparts, even though we have our idol of perfect womanhood and emancipation in the several incarnations of Goddess Imoinu, lamented Bilashini.
In our modern society today, women are being subjugated and violence committed against them both within the family and in the society in large, she opined.
She further remarked that unlike Ima Imoinu, women have been a mere carrier of our cultures instead of taking proactive roles in shaping and reshaping our social cultures and orientation.
Addressing as a resource person, lecturer of MB College, Paonam Mema observed that believing and following the footsteps of Goddess Imoinu would enable us to liberate ourselves from the grips of vices like greed, anger, hatred, desire etc.
The ideal lessons and deeds exemplified by the Goddess must be inclu -ded in the school syllabus for moral education, opined Mema.
The seminar was also attended by retired principal of DM College of Commerce, Sairem Nilbir and social worker, Shyamjai as resource persons.
