Imphal, June 28 2009:
A five member delegation of tribal leaders led by former minister, professor Gangumei Kamei Saturday drew the attention of the Manipur Governor, Gurbachan Jagat on the objection raise by various hill based civil organizations on the deployment of police commandos and IRB in the hill areas of Manipur.
The delegation who met with the Governor also put up the matter of holding elections to the autonomous hill district councils urging him to intervene in holding the elections at the earliest.
During a brief audience, Governor has assured the delegation to look into the matter, a statement of dispatched by the delegation to the media today stated.
Apart for former state education minister, prof Gangumei Kamei, the delegation included prof M Horam, former dean of social science, Manipur University and also former chairman of the district council, Somi Keishing, social activist and David K Shimray, former member of ADC.
The Governor, after patient hearing, has indicated a positive response to look into the problems being faced by the people of the hill districts.
