An advocacy meeting for media personnel for prevention and control of Malaria was held today under the aegis of Manipur State Vector Borne Diseases Control Society at the Conference Hall of the State Guest House.
The occasion was graced by the Director of Health Services, Dr Motilal; Regional Director In-charge (ROH&FW), Government of India, Dr N Inaocha; and state Malaria Officer of the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme, Dr H Nimaichand as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Stressing on the important role of media in controlling the spread of Malaria, Dr Motilal said that the media should report accurate and first hand information on the issue.
He also said that with the cooperation of the state Malaria Department, the media and the people, the number of malaria cases is lesser this year.
Dr Motilal further said that after reports of the presence of Swine Flu in Mexico, the state has also been put on alert to tackle the menace.
A special room for passengers suspected to have Swine Flu has been opened at the Imphal Airport while urging the people to be more vigilant.
Dr N Inaocha said that awareness at the grass root level is a must on malaria.
He expressed his desired that media inform the people about the details of the disease.
The DDT, which had been used earlier as mosquito propulsive, is now being banned and the same could not be sprayed as per the will of the people, Dr N Inaocha said.
It has been banned as it was found to be toxic for human beings.
But it is used at selected places.
Various papers on prevention and control of malaria were read out during the technical session later.
