Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) celebrated its 12 foundation day at its conference hall located within the court complex at Lamphel here today.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Ph Parijat Singh attended the celebration as chief guest.
Members of the Commission Ng Nongyai, RK Rajendra and Law Secretary Sukumar were also present at the dais.
Speaking at the occasion, Parijat observed that human rights is becoming an important issue in Manipur but it is questionable how many recommendations the Commission has made to the Government during its 12 years of existence, how many cases related to human rights violations have been investigated into and how many victims have been provided relief.
Nonetheless, he acknowledged that the Commission may be facing various constraints in its functioning.
He went on to say that the importance of human rights should be made known to the people and the Government and the Commission should work along with the support of the people and the Government.
Ng Nongyai pointed out that there is the need to strengthen the functioning of the Human Rights Commission in Manipur.
He also called upon the people for support and co-operation in taking care of the current infrastructural needs of the Commission.
