A fund amounting to Rs 1.10 lakh meant for village development work under BRGF (Backward Region Grand Fund) 2009-10 in Churachandpur district of Manipur has been allegedly withdrawn using forge signature.
The withdrawn amount was part of Rs 4 lakh released for the construction of a vocational training centre in Haijing village in the interior Churachandpur district under Singhat sub-division.
Police has registered a case against unknown(s) following a complaint from the chairman of the Village Development Council, Haijing village, official source said today.
The Rs 4 lakh fund sanctioned was deposited by the Village Development Council (VDC) under account no.0255010286138 with cheque no.253481-253500 opened by the council.
However, a part of the fund amounting to Rs 1,10,000 was withdrawn by cheque no.973784 on August 8, 2010 by using forged signature without the knowledge from the bank and the VDC, the chairman reported to the police.
The development grant component of the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF), administered by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, is implemented by in the state through Panchayats and the Municipalities in valley areas and through village development authorities in hill districts.
Meanwhile, in another unrelated incident, chief of Mong-on village in the same district of Churachandpur allegedly intimidate to the staffs of the Thalon SDO and abused them verbally on Wednesday.
Thangkholal Thangsing, chief of Mong-on village at present Cheingkon of Churachandpur entered to the office of SDO, Thalon and intimidate staff of the office and abused them verbally and also damaged chair and break top glass from the table of the EO/DEV on the day at around 3 pm, an official report said today.
