Suspected UG cadres shot dead a village chief at Chamol hill under Chakpikarong police station reportedly after being abducted yesterday evening, around 4.30 pm.
The chief of Moljang village identified as Ngamkholet Baite (56) son of late Tongkholun was abducted by two UG cadres yesterday from his house, according to his family.
They said that the two cadres who were waiting for the village chief when he would be coming back from work at his jhoom field with his wife was whisked away on the pretext of discussing a certain matter.
Against strong resistance from his wife and family members not to take away him and to hold talks at their house, the two armed youths forcibly took away him without giving any specific reason and shot him dead on the top of the Chamol hill.
They do not know the motives behind the killing.
After postmortem at JNIMS morgue in Imphal, the family brought back the dead body today.
On the other hand, the dead body of Longjam Umakanta (21) who was killed by the Assam Rifles in an alleged encounter on November 22 last has been handed over to the family after a postmortem examination today.
Umakanta son of Yaimachanba of Wangoo Sandungkhong left home to join the PLA around seven years back, according to the family.
