Imphal, February 25:
A 42-year old housewife, who had reportedly gone out on February 21 after receiving a telephone call from some people who identified themselves as underground activists for some talks was found thrashed to death near a bus shed at Hayel Hangul under Imphal Police Station.
The victim has been identified as Khaidem Ningol Kangujam Ongbi Manorama alias Maimu (42) w/o Kangujam Ranjit of Khongman Okram Chuthek Makha Loukon Palli.
She was a mother of three children.
The body was picked up by her family members and after reporting the matter to Irilbung Police Station, post-mortem was conducted at RIMS morgue.
There were reportedly tale tell signs of severe beating all over the body.
Talking to mediapersons in connection with the incident, Ranjit disclosed that one of his uncles identified as Kangujam Rajen and his nephew Goro were picked up unidentified gunmen from their house on the intervening night February 20 and 21. At that time, he and his wife were at Uripok Khwai Nagamapal and came to know about the incident only when Sunil, the elder brother of Goro, reported the incident saying that the abductors identified themselves as activists of an underground organisation.Subsequently, Manorama and Sunil went to meet the underground activists on February 21. But late at night, the unidentified persons called again and asked to come and take Manorama as the condition of her health had deteriorated.
However, when the family members went, the body of Manorama was found near the waiting shed.
The where-abouts of Sunil, who had gone along with Manorama is also not known till today, Ranjit informed, while appealing to all concerned to explain who and why his wife has been killed.
