Demanding immediate release of pending salaries for six months, teachers employed under the six Autonomous District Councils of Ukhrul, senapati, sadar hills, Tamenglong, churachandpur and Chandel district have started ceasework strike with immediate effect by staging protest demonstrations at their respective district headquarters.

Commanding a total strength of about 3888 members, the ADC teachers have also threatened that failure to respond positively from the side of the State Government would compel them to resort to other form of intense agitation.
It has been reported that in addition to highlighting non-release of the pending salaries till date, the ADC employees had been on pen down strike from August 28 till September 1 in pursuit of many other demands.
These demands include release of 14 percent dearness allowance, facilitate Council teachers pursue B.ed course from the current academic session and implement/cover the ADC employees under NIC/MGEL.
sources said that 10 percent seat had been reserved for B.Ed course of these teachers but the exercise contravened as admission from the current session is yet to be entertained. In furtherance of their agitation, the ADC teachers resorted to sit-in-protests at the respective headquarters from today and continuing the protest session until tomorrow, the teachers are planning to stage similar demonstration at a State capital location on September 4 .
While pointing out their grievances to a group of newspersons who covered protest demonstrations organised today at the District Council office premises at Kangpokpi and Senapati district headquarters, spokespersons of the respective Councils said in case Government continues to ignore their plight resorting to hunger strike from September 6 onward till an acceptable solution could not be ruled out.
