Imphal, September 02 2009:
The police today arrested Ningombam Tomba (40) of Khongyam Makha Leikai, who allegedly raped his 67-year-old mother-in-law.
The police also facilitated the conduct of medical examinations in the Forensic Department of RIMS Hospital on the victim and the accused in connection with the crime.
According to information received from Sugnu police station, an FIR has been registered against Tomba after he was picked up by a police team from his house this morning.
The accused would be produced before a Magistrate tomorrow for further interrogation, said a police officer of the Sugnu police station.
The officer clarified that the personnel of the police station had never asked for money to arrest the accused as claimed by the victim.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Law Network said that it would file an application pleading the Court to allow them to assist the victim in the trial of the case.
Tomba's wife and her three kids are now staying at State-run EEMA Swadhar Home as she could not bear the torture and inhuman treatments meted out by her husband.
