Imphal, October 07 2009:
It will be better for the Manipur government to initiate works by intimating its counterpart Nagaland government for vacating the land encroached by the Nagaland from Manipur territory and shifting of the outpost of the Nagaland police, cautioned the ACOM-Lup, Mainpur today.
Briefing media persons today at a press conference at its office at Sagolband, general secretary of the All Clubs, Organisations and Meira Paibi Lup (ACOM-Lup), Indrajit Tourangbam said encroaching of land at Manipur's Ukhrul district and opening of police outpost there is like spearing to the heart of the people of the state.
If the matter be enlarged further to make an issue, there may come up a strong movement from the people of the state unable to control.
It will be better for the Nagaland government to retreat from their stand, he said.
If the matter be settled on table between the Nagaland and Manipur government ACOM-Lup will opt to launch agitation with the support of other likeminded civil organizations and people.
The finance secretary of the body, Sanjit Soungaijam said as per census report of 1981, the area of the state is 22,327 square kilometer against 22,356 square kilometer before the 1981 census.
Manipur had lost 29 square kilometer from its actual area.
While, the people of the state are not happy with the diminishing in area of the state, there erupted another encroachment of state land by the neighbouring Nagaland.
It is unfortunate thing that Manipur government did not take up action to check its territory on time.
People of the state have standing decision not to give away even a piece of land to others.
The encroachment at Jessami of Ukhrul by the Nagaland is the result of Manipur government long neglect of its boundary, he alleged.
Government should instruct state revenue department to discharge their duty well.
ACOM-Lup always stands for the protection of state boundary, he added.
