A traffic awareness programme for the NCC cadets which would go on for nine days has begun from today under the joint aegis of National Cadet Corps (NCC), Group Headquarters, Imphal and Imphal West Traffic Police.
In all 168 cadet boys and girls are participating in the awareness programme.
As part of the awareness programme which would go on till October 16, over the next eight days, a group of 56 cadets each would be deployed on duty along with the traffic police to help in regulation of the traffic flow every day with exception to Sunday from 9.30 to 12 noon and again from 2 pm to 5 pm at Thangal Bazar, in front of Kangla Gate and at various points along the BT Road as field practical.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection at the complex of Imphal West Traffic Police, Commander of NCC Group Headquarters, Imphal Lt Col Joy Choudhury said that established under an Act of Parliament in 1948, NCC has been involving the youths in the Nation building process through various welfare measures based on dignity of labour.
With Unity and Discipline being the motto of NCC and in recognising the need to inculcate the knowledge of social service to the cadets, the traffic awareness programme has been taken up in association with Imphal West Traffic Police to help in smooth flow of vehicular traffic on the roads of Imphal, the Group Commander explained.
DSP of Imphal West Traffic Police Yengkhom Victoria who was also present at the occasion observed such traffic awareness programmes are very much essential and should be conducted regularly.
On the first day of the programme today, NCC cadets were deployed on duty along with traffic police at Thangal Bazar, BT Road and in front of Kangla Gate and help in regulating the traffic flow.
