Despite the prevailing bad law and order situation, the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) has been able to collect over Rs 4 crore in a year as revenue from toll tax and others, announced chairperson of the IMC, M Ranisana while highlighting the achievements of the IMC from August 2008 to September 5, 2009 .
Speaking to media persons at her office chamber today, Ranisana also informed that the strike of the employees of IMC has suspended following an agreement was reached between the the authority and striking employees.
Elaborately highlighting on the achievement during her tenure as chairperson of the council, she said the council had collected Rs 4,10,35,865 as tax from the shops and venders in the places located within the IMC jurisdiction.
The council also collected Rs 10, 47,225 as toll tax during the same period from August 2008 to September 5, 2009 she said adding that it was able since the successful privatization and such tax remain non-released for a long time due to the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
Since the checking of the occupying roadside by the street venders in consultant with DSP, Imphal city traffic, traffic congestion in city area have been remarkably reduced, she claimed.
Further talking on achievement of the IMC since she became the chairperson, 1808 stall at market sheds in Khwairamband Bazar area have been verified.
Collecting of parking fees from parking vehicles in IMC areas which have been suspended for the last two year has again resumed.
Since the abolition of the octroi tax collected by the IMC, government has provided Rs 2.9 crore to the IMC.
Apart from this, with the objective of converting the Imphal city into Solar city, she had participated in the meeting of the Municipal chairpersons and executive officers in November last year.
For developing road and drain, a work programme with estimated cost of Rs 37,91,177 has been included in government work programme.
Reconstruction of compound fencing and construction of computer house have also started.
On the other hand, the prolong cease work strike of the employees demanding clearance of their pending salaries has been suspended following an agreement reached in a talk.
The agreement was brought about on September 27 last.
Under the agreement salaries for four months of the employees will be clear within this week before the Ningol Chakkouba.
Mention may be made that salaries of 28 months of employees are pending.
