'If all communities of the state respect each others' culture and tradition peace will prevail in the state, said MLA MorungMakunga.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the Cultural Festival on Peace, 2009 organised by the All Tribal Women's Organisation, Chandel district at MG Evergreen High School ground located at Tuisami today with the theme Peace through Culture.
He said, Chandel district is inhabited various ethnic communities.
He urged all to respect the cultures of other communities while also appealing the people to forget the past enmities among various communities.
Among others, the occasion was graced by ex-minister DK Korungthang as the functional president while H Dilip, IAS, DC of Chandel district was the guest of honour.
Various communities inhabiting Chandel district like Chothe, Anal, Thadou, Aimol, Tarao, Moyon, Monsang, Vaiphei, Lamkang, Zou, Maring and Gangte have presented their cultural dances on the occasion.
