Imphal, September 23, 2009:
Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has expressed extreme displeasure and disappointment at the 'apathy and callousness' on the part of the MU authority in delaying, disbursal of monthly fellowship to research scholars and M Phil students which is causing unnecessary hardship to the students.
A statement issued by MUTSU president Pamei Tingenlung pointed out that some scholars are not getting their fellowships for 6/7 months while adding, research scholars who are very much eligible for SRF are not getting their share owing to unnecessary delay in releasing the orders for awarding their fellowship.
Further, the students' body lamented that the university has become a great centre of contract and the officials have never realized that it is the highest centre of learning in the state.
The arrest of two engineers of the university recently on the alleged charge of carrying Rs 2 lakh for forward payment to UGs clearly spoke of MU becoming a business hub.
Even as the MU has been converted into a central university, the spirit is always missing due to corrupt and incompetent officials, the statement observed while pointing out that the bus acquired for route bus has been lying unused for more than a year now.
The MUTSU statement also expressed concerned over the denial of allocation of hostel rooms to students of far flung areas while students residing in close proximity of the university have been allocated seats.
It also pointed out that SC ST Employees of the university are not promoted to higher ranks despite fulfillment of the criteria in such provisions.
The students' body statement also strongly favored the revival of MUSU as it, according to the statement, provides a platform for interactions, exchange of views, ideas and opinions.
It stated that the revival of MUSU will enable the students' community to become a dynamic and vibrant one.
The statement observed that the VC and the Registrar should resign immediately if prompt action cannot be taken to redress the grievances.
