The All Tribal Disable Un ion Manipur (ATDUM) today announced that the body will imposed indefinite economic on NH-39 from October 4 next protesting against the non-reservation of quota for the people living with disabilities in the advertisement for the recruitment of primary teachers of the schools under the Autonomous District Councils.
The announcement of imposition of the economic blockade was made at a press conference held today in the office of the union at Chnigmeirong Mamang Leikai by the president Momo.
He said that in the advertisement for appointment of 1729 primary teachers for filling up the vacant posts in the schools run by Hill Autonomous Councils, no reservation for the disable tribal people was made even though there is provision of reservation of 3 per cent for the people with disabilities under section 33 of Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.The same has been extended in the state too from the year 1996, he added.
Momo further said that in talked with Tribal Development Minister, DD Thaisii on September 15 last, he had also admitted enforcement of the reservation Act in the state too.
He had also assured of taking up steps for the welfare of the tribal people with disabilities.
But he failed to translate the assurance into action.
In this regard, a joined meeting of the units of the union, Senapati District Physically Handicapped Association, Chandel People With Disabilities Union, Tamenglong People with Disabilities Organization, Association of Persons with Disabilities Union, Churachandpur and All Tribal Blind Association held re solved to press the state authority to suppress the advertisement for recruitment and re-issue fresh advertisement reserving seats for the people with disabilities.
If the re-advertisement be not issue by October 3 next, the meeting also re solved to imposed indefinite economic blockade from 4 am of next day October 4, Momo informed the media.
