Freed MI Khan wishes to contest election

Imphal, March 25 2011:
MI Khan, former chairman of the UG outfit, PULF, who was released from Sajiwa jail today following an order of the Guwahati High Court, announced that he will contest in the forthcoming Assembly election.
Hailing from Keirao Makting Makha Leikai, Imphal east, MI Khan is also known as Islamuddin.
He was chairman of PULF.
He was first arrested on April 29, 2008 from Maheshwar town of Madhya Pradesh with five other leaders of the outfit by a team of Imphal east police led by SP, Th Radeshyam.
Brought to Imphal on April 30 of the year in connection with 24 cases pending against him in various police stations of the state, he was detained at Sajiwa jail under NSA by an order of the state home department issued on May 30, 2008 .
Following a confrontation wich erupted from building a Masjid inside Sajiwa jail, he was shifted to Tihar jail.
Later, in December 2008, he filed a petition to the Gauhati High Court, Imphal bench through his counsel senior advocate Th Ngongo challenging the ground of detention under NSA.
After the court directed the state government to revoke the order passed on February 3, 2009, MI Khan was again brought to Imphal on February 25 of the same year for release.
Imphal east police re-arrested him as soon as he was released by the jail authority from Sajiwa jail with five pending cases against him.
An order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal released him on bail on March 13, 2009.After then, he left Manipur on March 16 and attended a convention of the PULF at a place outside the state in which he was appointed as chairman of the outfit and retired from the chairmanship in May 2010 .
Police in a joint operation with security forces arrested him again on May 2010 from Belgiram of Karnataka and was brought back again to Imphal and sent to jail on June 8, of the same year.
Later, he was detained under NSA again.
The Gauhati High Court again directed the state government to revoke the NSA detention which led to his release today.
When he was released from the jail, a team of Imphal east police took him to Porompat PS where he was freed.
He received a rousing welcome when he reached his native village at Keirao Makting Makha Leikai.
Speaking to reporters at his home, MI Khan said that he has decided to contest in the forthcoming Assembly election from Keirao Kendra, Imphal east.
He was happy that he was released from jail but he still had apprehensions of a re-arrest by police, Khan said.
