Imphal, March 25 2011:
Fire-brand Opposition member from the MPP, O Joy has today categorically stated that IFCD Minister N Biren should step down on moral ground as his son was involved in the day light killing of a youth from Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Irom Roger on March 20 .
Taking part in the discussion during the Manipur Appropriation No.2 Bill 2011 to pass a sum of Rs 7 crore approximately today, Joy said since it is now established that the IFCD's Minister 's son N Ajay shot Roger to death questioned whether the investigation has been able to come up with the possible motive behind the killing as well as the progress made so far in the investigation conducted by the police.
Demanding that appropriate punishment should be awarded to the killers, Joy said that charge sheets should be framed soon and added that to soothe the hurt sentiments of the people and the looming suspicion that justice would be denied, N Biren should step down.
Referring to the economic blockade and bandh on the National Highways, Joy said that the Government should crack its whip to ring out the message that the National Highways cannot be used as a bargaining chip on some ground or the other.
A legislation towards this may be framed and passed by the House, Joy opined.
In the interregnum, before the legislation is passed, the Government may pass an ordinance and then act accordingly to rid the highways of the pests.
Responding to the posers and points raised by Joy, Chief Minister O Ibobi, who also holds the Home portfolio informed the House that so far five persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of Roger.
They have been remanded to police custody further and are under interrogation, said Ibobi.
There is no way, the Government will let go of any guilty persons, declared the Chief Minister.
