Assembly budget session concludes

Imphal, March 25 2011:
Manipur Legislative Assembly was adjourned today sine die at the end of the Budget Session, which was mainly devoted to financial business of the government.
The session, which began on March 8 with Governor Gurbachan Jagat's customary address, had 14 sittings in all.
Five government bills and one private member resolution were passed during the session, said Speaker I Hemochandra adding that out of two private member resolutions introduced during the session, one was withdrawn.
Before adjourning the House sine die, the Speaker announced that three points of order and seven calling attention motions, one privilege motion, 76 starred questions and seven un-starred questions were raised by the members of the House.
The government tabled 11 papers and five committee reports.
Two obituary references and a motion of thanks to the Governor's Address were also passed.
The House discussed and passed 50 demands for grants including supplementary demand for grant for the fiscal year 2010-11 and demand for grants for 2011-12, he added.
He thanked the members for their cooperation in the smooth conduct of the House.
The Speaker pointed out that most of the departments failed to table their respective annual reports well on time in the House despite repeated urgings for timely tabling.
He had directed all concerned to ensure tabling of such reports at least a week ahead of scheduled discussions.
The Assembly secretariat has also notified the adjournment of the 10th session of the Assembly sine die with effect from today.
The notification was issued under rule 19 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
