Imphal, March 25 2011:
Khamasom Village secretary AS Yaolei has alleged that building construction of Khamasom High School, in Ukhrul district is far from being completed even though an amount of Rs 15.91 lakhs has been withdrawn by the contractor concerned in three phases.
Speaking to some newspersons today, Yaolei said a total of Rs 25,70,700 was sanctioned on December 28, 2009 for construction of the school building under the special Plan Assistance (SPA) .
Suspecting irregularities in the execution of the school building construction, some members of Khamasom village Authority approached officials of Education Department's Engineering Cell during which it came to light that the contractor concerned had already withdrawn Rs 15.91 lakhs.
However, the construction work had ceased without even completing the wall portion, the secretary maintained.
Located about 49 kilometres from the district headquarters, Khamasom High School has a total of 60 students and three teachers, including one matriculate, an under-matric and a BA degree holder.
With about 2500 strong population the School has tremendous potential to development but the only impediment seems to be lack of qualified and sufficient number of teaching staff, expressed Yaolei.
