MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine immunization programme will be taken up across the state to control Rubella (German measles) with the confirmation of fresh case of infecting children by the disease found in Imphal east district, said state health and family welfare minister, Ph Parijat today.
Speaking at the lamp lighting cum capping ceremony of the students of Rural School of Nursing held at Porompat Panchayat Bhavan today, the minister also said that government has started processing for withdrawing recognition to private nursing institutions running without proper infrastructures.
The minister said immunization programme will be taken up so that further spreading of the disease could be checked before the situation become alarming.
The vaccine will be provided free of cost and people can vaccinated their children at the nearest health centres.
Responsibility taken by a nurse is not less than that of a doctor Parijat said the confirmation of unknown disease that infected to the children at Khurai area was after a nurse came across a child infected by the disease.
Health minister lauded the work of the ASHAs on reporting on the outbreak of Rubella (German measles) disease on time to the authority stating that ASHAs, health workers under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), first detected infection children in Khurai area of Imphal east by the unknown disease.
Authority has taken up the task of confirming the unknown disease after ASHA workers informed health officials on June 4 last who swung into action and collected blood samples of nine children and sent to NICD, New Delhi for identification of the disease, he said.
Further speaking on the occasion, the minister also observed that as most of the private nursing institutions are running without proper infrastructures, nursing students from these institutions are lack of quality.
Students of government run nursing institutions are far better compared to them, he added.
Health authority had given the recognition to the private institutions with the view that in due course of time, they will upgrade the infrastructures of being a nursing institute.
But in due course of time, there fell the need for re-looking to the infrastructures and facilities provided in the institutes.
The de-recognition of institutes will be done after checking and physical verification to the institutes is conducted by the authority, he added.
Stating that lamp lighting cum capping ceremony for the nursing students are closely related with taking oath for serving the people barring poor and rich and the profession itself is a pride profession, they should discharge their duties with sincere and sacrifice, he told the gathering nursing students.
