Imphal, July 19 2009:
The All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) today stated that they are not convinced over the government taking so long to prepare the Rules of Manipur Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (For SC and ST), Act 2007 while pledging to stand where it stood and never backtrack.
In a statement, the assistant general secretary of ATSUM, Robert Leivon stated that the tribal people of Manipur have had bitter experience in the past.
It stated that the issue of reservation in recruitment of staffs in MLA secretariat as well as the MSRRDA could have been avoided without much hue and cry from the tribal.
Whatever is the explanation or rational behind the denial of the rights and privilege of the tribal people of the state, ATSUM will stand where it stood and never backtrack, the ATSUM statement asserted.
It added that the Manipur government as a welfare state or the university authorities must find ways to address the issue in more humane way in the larger interest of the state.
