Left unattended for 45 years, circle MLA T Hangkhanpau has mesmerised the interior villagers of Khaopi area under Singat AC in Churachandpur district on Thursday.
Sholam Khaopi Area Chiefs' Association (SHACA) has accorded warm welcome to circle MLA T Hangkhanpao on December 3 at Govajang village, about 37 kms from Churachandpur main town.
The MLA was touring the Khaopi area, which has been left unattended by any elected MLA of the constituency, for about 45 years.
The function began with traditional trumpet salute.
Hemthang Haokip, chief of Govajang village while welcoming the MLA expressed gratitude to the MLA for visiting the area that has been specified as one of the most neglected area in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA T Hangkhanpau stressed that villagers should always remain loyal to their chiefs and enough respects should be shown to them as the chiefs hold an important places in the tribal society.
He urged the villagers always to show honour, respect and regards to the village chiefs so that there can be mutual understanding that will ultimately lead to the path of development at all fronts.
Observing that the area has not been visited by any MLA for the last 45 years, he said that he visited the area to see the condition and welfare of the people.
He said, he sees the hardship faced by the area with his own eyes while also seeking co-operation of his constituency people.
He assured that emphasis should be given to Khaopi area while implementing fund of Sangaikot TD block.
The MLA also assured to extend possible help to the people in times of need.
Stressing on the need of proper communication, he also promised to open Post Office as soon as possible in the area.
He also distributed 50 red blankets to village chiefs and Pastors of the area and 40 numbers of wall clocks to village churches.
SHACA also submitted a memorandum to the MLA highlighting their grievances.
The memo noted on the absence of electricity in the area, poor water supply and the needs of PHSC in the area, which covers around 27 villages.
Presentation by Kuki Women Union (KWU), pronouncing of blessing prayer by Rev Seilen Haokip, along with 7 pastors, presentation of song by Evan Jeff Akai also marked the tour programme.
President of KSO, Sangaikot Block, Tongkai also highlighted about the need of education in the area.
