Many laws to protect women from domestic violence are in force under the Indian Constitution.
But, women of the state are rarely take help of this laws.
Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal, RK Memcha said today in a programme organized by the Committee on Concept of Human Trafficking and Gender Violence in Manipur in connection with the fortnight observation of violence against women.
Memcha further speaking at the programme held at YAS ground, Khangabok in Thoubal as chief guest observed that one of the most important thing behind unable to avail the benefits of the laws is unaware of law and lack of thorough knowledge of the law.
Some of the women, even though, know the laws are not trying taking the help of the laws under the acts.
If there is hard evidence of committing violence against again woman, justice can be sought from the law court free of cost through the State Legal Authorities, she added.
Secretary of Sobita Mangsatabam, Women Action for Development who spoke in the programme expressed concern in the increasing number of widow in the conflict riddled state of Manipur.
Now, there arises the need of looking after them as most of the victims are from the poorer and weaker section of the society.
Women leading single life after her husband killed or kicked out her also compelled victim women engaging as commercial sex workers unwillingly.
National awardee and also president of the Khangabok Village Development Committee, N Lukhoi, its secretary Kh Khomei, former principal of YK College Dr Moirangthem Balram and retired lecturer Dr M Rajen attended as guests of honour of the meeting.
