Imphal, December 04 2009:
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and his Council of Ministers have seriously deliberated on the deadlock over resolving the over four-month long agitation being spear-headed by the Apunba Lup in connection with the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident.
According to a reliable source, meetings of the Council of Ministers were convened twice today, the first in the morning and the second in the afternoon, to deliberate on the issue with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in the chair.
During these meetings, the Council of Ministers discussed the progress of the talks initiated by a Ministerial team with the Apunba Lup a couple of days back.
Though the demands of the Apunba Lup were also reportedly taken up for discussion during the meetings today, the source, however, declined to divulge information on the decision taken in this regard.
Nonetheless, the Government has already made an offer to release all the agitators who have been arrested and put in the jail, the source said, adding that the Government is awaiting the response of the Apunba Lup to continue with the talk.
It may be recalled here that after the first round of talks between the Chief Minister and the agitators comprising the Apunba Lup, three student bodies and two JACs, the second round of talks is yet to be materialised.
The Apunba Lup has also submitted a 13-point demands to the Government.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of the JACs of Rabina and Sanjit was reportedly held today.
However, what were transpired during the meeting could not confirm till the filing of this report.
