Festival of classical dance from Nov 10

In collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata and North Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur is all set for organizing the 9th Bhagyachandra National Festival of Classical Dance, 2011 from November 10 to 13 .
Addressing a press conference in this connection at MFDC Hall, Palace Compound here today, Commissioner of Art and Culture RK Nimai informed that Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh would be inaugurating the festival at Kaina on November 10 where Maha Raas would be performed but the rest of the programmes of the festival would held at the Shree Shree Govindajee Temple complex inside Kangla from November 11.
He explained that the Many classical dancers, both from Manipur and other states and critics from national media have been invited to participate in the festival.
RK Nimai said, while informing that apart from local classical dancers like Thokchom Ibemubi Devi, Pukhrambam Bilash Singh, Ningthoujam Priyolata Devi, Elam Indira Devi, Manju Elangbam and Pukhrambam Reepa Devi, classical dancers from outside namely Vednatam Venkata Naga Chalapathi Rao (Kuchipudi), Anita Sharma (Sattriya), Madhusmita Mohanty & Ramesh Chandra Jena (Odissi duet), Pallavi Krishnan (Mohiniyattam), Rajendra Gangani (Kathak) and Vani Ganapathi (Bharatanatyam) would be performing in the Bhagyachandra National Festival of Classical Dance, 2011 .
He informed that there would be bus services from the office gate of Art and Culture Department for those who would like to attend the inaugural function of the festival at Kaina on November 10.The bus would set out for Kaina at 1.30 pm.
For enjoying the rest of the programmes and performances of the festival at Kangla from November 10, there would be no ticket or pass system for entry.
The Commissioner observed that it would be inspiring for the young local dancers to watch the performances of the renowned classical dancers coming from outside.
Director of Art and Culture Dr Sobita and Joint Director Dr Bhagyachandra were also present during the press conference.
It may be recalled here that the first edition of Bhagyachandra National Festival of Classical Dance was held in 1989 .
